Abilene Zoo Evacuated After Another Bomb Threat

ABILENE, TX — The Abilene Zoo was evacuated Monday afternoon after staff received a bomb threat reporting multiple explosive devices on the property.

Zoo staff stated they received a call at about 2:50 p.m. and immediately began evacuating visitors and employees as a precaution.

Members of the Abilene Police Department's bomb squad secured the area and searched the zoo, finding no evidence of explosive devices.

The zoo said the threat was a hoax and noted it was the second false bomb threat targeting the facility in recent weeks. A similar incident occurred May 17.

According to a zoo press release, false bomb threats targeting zoos have been reported at facilities across the country.

The Abilene Zoo remained closed for the rest of Monday, July 6, following the incident.
