SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man has been arrested for robbing a Dollar General.
Daniel Zurita, 38, was arrested for aggravated robbery and possession of suspected heroin.
According to court documents, on Oct. 20, 2026, the investigator responded to the 1500 block of South Bell Street regarding a robbery in progress. A Dollar General employee was attempting to stop a man who had threatened someone with a handgun. The man and the suspected vehicle were not on scene when officers arrived.
The investigator spoke with the victim who said the man had pushed a shopping cart outside without paying. The victim went outside and saw the man loading up the stolen items into the trunk of a white vehicle. Then the victim told the man they were calling the police, and that is when he produced a handgun and said, “Do you want to get shot?” The victim ran back into the store and told her manager, who ended up calling 911.
Then the investigator spoke to the manager, who stated that she observed the man inside the store with a shopping basket of unpaid merchandise. The man purchased a pre-paid cell phone and then exited the store with the unpaid items. The manager alerted the employee, who confronted the man outside but came running back in and said he had a gun.
Dollar General security footage showed the man enter the store on Oct. 20 at 8:11 p.m. and exit the store with the unpaid merchandise at 8:42 p.m. The footage also showed the employee running back into the store after approaching the man, and it showed the manager locking the store.
Still photos of the man entering the store showed a Hispanic male of medium build wearing a dark-colored baseball cap, light blue t-shirt with a dark blue undershirt, red shorts, and black socks and shoes.
The man’s photo was shown to all officers, and several wrote back that it appeared the man was Daniel Zurita. Then, the investigator reviewed a Flock camera photo taken around 7:48 p.m. that showed Zurita’s vehicle, a white Toyota Scion, was on Bell Street near the Dollar General.
A detective with the San Angelo Police Department notified officers that he had located Zurita’s vehicle driving near the intersection of Knickerbocker Road and South Johnson Street. It was confirmed the driver was Zurita, and he made a wide right turn which caused officers to perform a traffic stop.
Zurita was arrested for making a wide right turn, possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. A search of the vehicle was conducted, and the investigator observed the stolen merchandise with Dollar General tags still on it.
Zurita was interviewed and agreed to speak with officers after being read his Miranda Rights. Zurita allegedly confessed to stealing the merchandise but denied producing a firearm and threatening the victim. The investigator asked Zurita if he had previously been arrested for aggravated robbery in which he had stolen property in 2015 and brandished a firearm to a victim. It was confirmed that Zurita had been arrested for aggravated robbery in 2015.
Zurita was arrested and booked into Tom Green County Jail on Oct. 21 for wide right turn, possession of a controlled substance, aggravated robbery, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Zurita’s bond has been set at $200,000.
