SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man has pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter in connection with a 2019 crash that killed a 25-year-old woman.

Ismael Hinojos, 28, pleaded guilty Oct. 20 before Judge Gonzalo Rios in Tom Green County’s 119th District Court. He was sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, but the sentence was suspended, and he was placed on 10 years of probation.

He was also ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and $3,037 in restitution.

Hinojos was indicted in May 2022 and arrested in late June 2026. According to the indictment, he caused the death of Amanda Soto on July 6, 2019, by driving a vehicle into a tree while intoxicated.

San Angelo police said at the time that officers were dispatched just after 12:50 a.m. to the 2900 block of Southland Boulevard for a single-vehicle crash.

The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Soto, a passenger, died from her injuries. The driver, who was 21 at the time, was seriously injured.
