Texas Attorney General Takes Case Against San Angelo Officer in Firearm Investigation

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas Attorney General’s Office has accepted a case against San Angelo Police Officer Josh Loudermilk after an investigation revealed firearms surrendered to the department were later sold at a gun show.

During a press conference Friday morning at the McNease Convention Center, San Angelo Police Chief Travis Griffith announced that three officers—Lt. Brian Robinson, Officer Josh Loudermilk, and Officer Charles Flores—were involved in the case.

The investigation began in April 2024, when Homeland Security agents seized a firearm at the U.S.-Mexico border and traced it back to SAPD.

Robinson resigned early in the investigation, while Loudermilk and Flores were placed on administrative leave. Loudermilk was indefinitely suspended in December for policy violations, a decision he has since appealed. Flores received a 90-day unpaid suspension, which began Thursday.

Griffith said that SAPD was not involved in smuggling and that the case centers on mismanagement of firearms turned over to the department’s training division.

Some of the weapons were later sold at a gun show in Midland, Texas, and two remain missing.

“If at any time these weapons that are still missing come up, we will not hesitate to take appropriate action,” Griffith said. "And anybody else that might be involved in this, I guarantee you. We're not going to let this be something that has just gone with the wind."

The Texas Rangers conducted the criminal investigation, which was later turned over to the Texas Attorney General’s Office.

Griffith said further information regarding possible charges will come from state prosecutors.

SAPD has since implemented new policies to prevent similar incidents, Griffith said, and a formal press release is expected later today.
