University Theatre Presents "Titanic" Musical

 

University Theatre at Angelo State University will present an in-concert version of the musical “Titanic,” featuring the ASU Symphony Orchestra, said a press release Monday. The concert will run February 18 through 21 in the ASU Auditorium.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, February 18-20, with matinees at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 20, and Sunday, February 21. Tickets are $8 for the general public, $4 for non-ASU students and $3 for ASU students. Admission is free for Arts at ASU subscribers and ASU activity card holders. The ASU Auditorium is located in the Mayer Administration Building, 2601 W. Avenue N.

The sinking of the passenger cruise ship Titanic on its maiden voyage in 1912 remains the quintessential disaster of the 20th century, and the musical “Titanic” examines the causes, the conditions and the characters involved in this ever-fascinating drama. The show, with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and story by Peter Stone, premiered on Broadway in 1997 and won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Led by Director Michael Burnett, ASU’s assistant director of University Theatre, the production crew also features Julie Hamill of San Angelo’s Lee Middle School as music director, ASU costumer Eldra Sanford, ASU technical director Matt Chilcoat and Dr. Maurice Kelley, director of the ASU Symphony Orchestra. Burnett and Hamill are also cast members.

The ASU student cast includes Taylor Dabbs, Stephanie Davis, Jaslyn Diaz, Mason Gable, Sabrina Idom, Lindsey Jonest, Elizabeth Lichtenstein, Dimitri Miller-Moreno, Alison Morantes, Cameron O’Briant, Katherine Patrick, Andrea Perez, Bryce Real, Adam Rich, Jacob Scott, Julia Timme and Kala Young.

The extensive cast also includes Central Freshman Campus students Bryant Cobb and Kaden Wright and San Angelo community members Debra Edmund, Mack Fox, Kathryn Graham, Jon Mark Hogg and Bill Reynolds.

Chorus members include ASU students Megan Croyle and Eli Rodriguez, ASU alumni Chloe Casey and Rebecca Sussdorf, Central High School student Lexi Timme, Central Freshman Campus student Bethany Wheeler, and community members Anthony Edmund, Harriet Lewis, Elizabeth O’Briant and Yvette Sherman.

The ASU student production staff includes Julia McDaniel, production stage manager; Samantha Lewis, scenic designer and co-projection designer; Callie Stenson, lighting designer; Angela Baumann and Cecilie Lamb, assistant stage managers; Brittani Beggs, wardrobe supervisor Arianna Gonzalez, Aaron May and Katharine Patrick, wardrobe crew; Natalie Hines, prop master and assistant sound operator; Saxon Rhoad, master carpenter and deck chief; Bryce Real, carpenter; Tessa Verner, master electrician and light board operator; Nick Cline and Nick Ellis, electricians and spot operators; and Josiah Hernandez, house manager.

Tickets will go on sale in the ASU box office for Arts at ASU subscribers on Thursday, February 11, and for the general public on Monday, February 15. The ASU box office is open 2-6 p.m. weekdays. For reservations and/or ticket information, call 325-942-2000.
