San Angelo ISD Names New Campus Principal, Director Ahead of 2025-26 School Year

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo ISD has announced two leadership appointments for the 2025–2026 school year, including a new principal at Lamar Elementary and a districtwide director overseeing student safety and services.

Ashley Bishop has been promoted to Principal of Lamar Elementary School, replacing Shannon Klepac. Bishop has served as assistant principal at Lamar since 2022 and brings nearly 20 years of educational experience to the role. She began her career teaching first grade in San Antonio and later worked at Goliad Elementary in San Angelo ISD as a teacher, team leader and instructional coach. She holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Angelo State University.

“I am incredibly honored and excited to step into the Principal role at Lamar,” Bishop said. “During my time as assistant principal, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing firsthand the heart, dedication, and spirit that make Lamar truly special. That journey has only deepened my commitment to our students, staff, and families. I look forward to continuing our shared path—building on the strong foundation we’ve created and helping Lamar grow and thrive in the years ahead.”

The district also named Claudia Becerra as Director of School Safety and Student Services. Becerra has served as Principal of the Carver Learning Center since 2019 and has held several administrative and classroom teaching roles since joining San Angelo ISD in 2009. She has also coordinated academic alternatives for the PAYS campus since 2016, leading redesigns in student intake, behavioral support, and transition planning. 

“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve the students and staff at PAYS and Carver Learning Center,” Becerra said. “I look forward to supporting alternative campuses, leading district safety and emergency preparedness efforts, and serving as a resource for student services. It is a privilege to help create safe, inclusive, and effective learning environments for all students across our district."
