ASU University Theatre to Present 'The Crucible'

The University Theatre at Angelo State University announced that it will conclude the 2015-16 season with playwright Arthur Miller’s Tony Award-winning drama “The Crucible” April 28-May 1, and May 5-7, in the ASU Modular Theatre.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. April 28-30 and May 5-7, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1. Tickets are $8 for the general public, $4 for non-ASU students and $3 for ASU students. Admission is free for Arts at ASU subscribers and ASU activity cardholders. The ASU Modular Theatre is located in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.

Miller’s drama about the Puritan purge of witches in old Salem, Massachusetts won the 1953 Tony Award for Best Play. Both a gripping historical play and a timely parable of contemporary society, “The Crucible” focuses on a young farmer, his wife and a young servant girl who maliciously causes the wife’s arrest for witchcraft. The farmer brings the girl to court to admit the lie, and it is here that the course of bigotry and deceit is depicted. The farmer, instead of saving his wife, finds himself also accused and ultimately condemned with a host of others.

Under the direction of Dr. Bill Doll, director of University Theatre, the student cast is composed of Catie Anderson, Logan Burgess, Megan Croyle, Jaslyn Diaz, Miquela Hope Farley, Zack Fobbs, Mason Gable, Arianna Gonzalez, Dani Kim, Lizzy Lichtenstein, Aaron May, Luke Meyer, Andrea Perez, Bryce Real, Saxon Rhoad, Tristan Salinas, Jacob Scott, Taylor Sparkman and Callie Stenson. ASU Theatre alumni Abe Millar and Carlton “Buddy” Smith also are in the cast.
