San Angelo YMCA Plans Huge Halloween Event

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo YMCA will hold its annual Halloween at the Y on Oct. 28 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The majority of the event will be held in the YMCA parking lot, W. Concho at S. Randolph. Inside the Y, organizers are planning a haunted house experience.

The free event open to every child in the area will offer dozens of carnival themed booths, games, and a costume contest. The staff at the Y is hoping to obtain a bouncing house for the kids. Stay tuned, organizers said.

YMCA organizers said after so much has taken away from San Angelo children because almost all fun events have been canceled over the past 1.5 years due to the pandemic, they want to bring back the YMCA’s festive Halloween tradition in a big way. At the same time, organizers said the focus will be on safety, which is why most of this year’s event, with the exception of the haunted house, will be held outside.

Area businesses and non-profits are invited to participate in this year’s Halloween at the Y. The YMCA Engagement Coordinator Abrigail Holguin, who is this year’s organizer, said in past years the event distributed 30 pounds of candy. She along with membership director Larissa Rivera are seeking candy donations. In addition, the Y invites San Angelo organizations and businesses to set up booths in their own designated space. The organization chooses a theme, decorates the space, and organization representatives can wear costumes. From the booth, organizations can give away candy, host games, and hand out marketing materials (for the parents) to trick or treaters. The mapping of the booths will be incorporated into what Y organizers call “Trick or Treat Alley.” There is no cost for organizations or businesses to participate.

To donate candy or register your organization or business to participate with a booth, call or stop by the YMCA, 353 S Randolph St., San Angelo, TX 76903 or call the front desk (325) 655-9106. The deadline to register to participate is Oct. 15.
