WASHINGTON, D.C. — George Wendt, who played the beloved role of Norm on the hit 1980s sitcom “Cheers,” died Tuesday at the age of 76.
His family said he passed away peacefully in his sleep while at home, according to the publicity firm The Agency Group.
“George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,” the family said in a statement. “He will be missed forever."
Wendt earned six consecutive Emmy nominations for best supporting actor in a comedy series from 1984-89 for his role as a popular bar regular on “Cheers.”
Whenever his character walked into the bar, the rest of the patrons would yell, “Norm!”
Wendt appeared in all 275 episodes of the series, which ran from 1982 to 1993.

It wasn't enough to just go in peace, was it, Biden? You had to take poor George with you before you leave. Darn you and your praetorian guard of private intelligence contractors to heck!
