ITHACA — A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, has been released.Nolan visited The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night and revealed a brand-new trailer for his upcoming epic retelling of Homer’s The Odyssey. One of the greatest stories ever written, the Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus, who, after the Trojan War, tries to get home to his wife and son.
The trailer shows new looks at Charlize Theron, who is playing Calypso, and more of Robert Pattinson’s Antinous, one of the suitors who moves in to make Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway, his wife. Antinous is one of the more aggressive suitors, shown by his actions against Odysseus’s son, Telemachus, played by Tom Holland.
We also get shots of Polyphemus, Poseidon’s cyclopes son, more views of the Underworld, and a whirlpool that fans of the poem believe is Charybdis.
After The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar and especially Oppenheimer, when film fans hear Christopher Nolan’s name attached to a project, they listen. After the Oscar-winning biographical thriller, Oppenheimer, based around the construction of the nuclear bomb and the politics involved with that, fans were wondering what Nolan’s next project would be. No one expected his next project, with basically a blank check, would be Homer’s Odyssey.
Like Oppenheimer, The Odyssey carries an absolutely stacked cast of heavy hitters. The Odyssey stars:
- Matt Damon (Good Will Hunting, The Bourne Saga) as Odysseus
- Anne Hathaway (Les Miserables, Brokeback Mountain) as Penelope
- Tom Holland (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Uncharted) as Telemachus
- Zendaya (Challengers, Dune) as Athena
- Robert Pattinson (The Batman, Tenet) as Antinous
- Benny Safdie (Good Time, Pieces of a Woman) as Agamemnon
- Jon Bernthal (Fury, The Wolf of Wall Street) as Menelaus
- Charlize Theron (Monster, Mad Max: Fury Road) as Calypso
John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Will Yun Lee and Jimmy Gonzales, play Odysseus's shipmates, and Mia Goth plays Melantho, who is Penelope’s maid. Other actors include Lupita Nyong’o, Ryan Hurst, Jovan Adepo, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, James Remar, Logan Marshal-Green and Josh Stewart.
The Odyssey hits theaters on July 17, 2026.
