Coronavirus: Walmart Announces Temperature Checks for Employees

SAN ANGELO, TX – Walmart announced Tuesday the new safety measures that will be implemented to maintain the health and safety of their associates. The changes will be added to the new guidelines already in place to protect shoppers and employees.

Temperature Checks

Associates with a temperature of 100 degrees will be “be paid for reporting to work and asked to return home and seek medical treatment if necessary.” Employees can only return to work if they are fever-free for at least three days.

The store will be also sending infrared thermometers to all locations in the coming weeks . The chain COVID-19 related symptoms, concerns, illness or are quarantined assures their employees their jobs will remain secure if they have.

Masks and Gloves

The chain will also provide associates with access to masks and gloves if they want to wear them. Even though the CDC and other health officials don’t recommend for healthy people to wear protective gear if their job doesn’t require, stores will make them available to employees as long as they have them in stock.

“We encourage anyone who would like to wear a mask or gloves at work to ask their supervisor for them while keeping in mind that it is still possible to spread germs while wearing them.”

6-20-100 Guidance

The chain will also implement 6-20-100 guidelines that are aimed to protect their employees.

  • 6 feet is the amount of space people should keep from others
  • 20 seconds is the amount of time people should take to wash their hands with soap and water.
  • 100 is the temperature that someone should stay home with.

“We will continue to consult with health officials and experts inside and outside Walmart as this situation evolves. We greatly appreciate the work our associates are doing for customers, members, and their communities, and we will continue to prioritize their health and well-being.”
