UPDATE: Shannon Has an Adequate Amount of Ventilators and Beds

SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo is experiencing another uptick in coronavirus cases after the city reported over 100 new positive coronavirus cases and four deaths.

Friday, July 24, the City of San Angelo reported 102 new positive coronavirus cases.

Earlier Friday officials reported the 15th Coronavirus related death. Here is the story: 15th COVID-19 Death Reported in San Angelo.

There are now 18 confirmed deaths.

The DSHS has issued a statement regarding false numbers reported in the DSHS Map Friday.

According to the Department of State Health Services, DSHS is reporting incomplete hospitalization numbers today due to a transition in reporting to comply with new federal requirements.
For July 23, 84.5 percent of hospitals reported complete data to DSHS, resulting in a partial data set and the appearance of a drop in hospitalizations. DSHS continues to work with Texas hospitals during this transition to ensure all facilities can fully report the data required.

Earlier this month Shannon Medical Center claimed to have an adequate number of ventilators or ventilator devices. A Spokesperson for Shannon also says that they have a plan in place if bed capacity starts filling up.

Since the beginning of the pandemic the City of San Angelo's Health Department has reported 1,875 positive cases.

According to the DSHS COVID-19 map as of July 23 at 3:15 p.m. Trauma Service Area K, which is made up of Coke, Concho, Crockett, Irion, Kimble, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Reagan, Runnels, Schleicher, Sterling, Sutton, and Tom Green County, serves 179,457 citizens.

The DSHS Map states that 127 hospital beds are currently staffed and there are currently 127 beds available. The map also states that Service Area K has no ICU beds or ventilators available.

In San Angelo, the health department reports 40 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

The City did not release the number of active cases on Friday as of 2:20 p.m. more coronavirus information including the graphics are expected later.

Today the City reported 48 PCR cases and 54 antigen cases.
