SAN ANGELO, TX — The first-ever Mighty Waters Golf Classic has begun at Quicksand Golf Course, where 28 teams are signed up to participate.
Abbey Skrzypczak, the Program and Development Manager for Mighty Waters, said, “Mighty Waters is a nonprofit based right here in San Angelo that provides transformative weekend retreats for growth, connection, and wellness for women conquering cancer.”
“We are here at Quicksand for our first-ever Golf Classic,” Skrzypczak continued, “We had 28 teams sign up and they are out golfing on the course as we speak. We have lunch cooking, we have raffle items, we have a silent auction up. So, if you’re seeing this, out silent auction is up until Monday at 9 p.m.”
This year’s theme is “Making Waves: One Swing at a Time”, and it reflects the organization’s goal to make a lasting impact through community involvement. Every penny from the golf tournament goes towards Mighty Waters.
“It goes to just being able to provide these free weekend retreats for women conquering cancer,” Skrzypczak said, “These women are going through the hardest diagnosis of their life. A lot of times, they can feel so alone and isolated as a result of their cancer diagnosis. We really exist just to be a safe haven for them. Just for rest and peace, they are pampered but they also get education on a cancer fighting lifestyle and real tips and tools that they can use for their health and their wellness that reaches far beyond their diagnosis.”
