Take a Trip to Santa Fe for International Folk Art Market

On July 8, 9,and 10, the 13, artists from all over the world are going to be in Santa Fe to share their cultural art styles with people from all over the country.

The annual Santa Fe International Folk Art Market Opening Party, A Global Gathering Under the Stars, will be at the Museum Hill, located at 710-708 Camino Lejo, on Friday at 6:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.

"This particular art festival has been voted number one in the U.S. by USA Today, and there is nothing else like it," said Gabriel Gomez, Marketing and Communications Consultant for the Santa Fe International Folk Art Festival. "It's the world coming to Santa Fe and sharing the different art forms from 60 different countries."

Each year, over 20,000 visitors come to experience the Market and celebrate folk art while enjoying international food and music. This year, there will be 187 artists from those 60 countries.

The International Folk Art Market

The International Folk Art Market will have international food and music, artists demonstrations, and unique folk art from throughout the world.

Santa Fe has hosted more than 750 artists from 92 countries in the world’s largest exhibition and sale of works by master folk artists. The Market offers folk artists a respected spot in the global marketplace to gather together and share their handmade traditions, and to create economic, social, and individual empowerment.

In the past 12 years, artist sales have exceeded $21 million and impacted over one million lives in the communities they represent. Artists take home 90 percent of the earnings, giving them the opportunity to serve as catalysts for positive social change in their communities by improving employment, healthcare, education and well-being.

The Market’s annual success led to Santa Fe’s designation as a UNESCO City of Folk Art, the first U.S. city named to UNESCO’s prestigious Creative Cities Network.

For this year's Folk Art opening, tickets are $225 ($175 tax deducible). On Saturday, the Early Bird Market will begin at 7:30 a.m. and end at 9:00 a.m., and the tickets will be $75 (includes all day Saturday).

On Saturday and Sunday, Market will be at Museum Hill from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Tickets for Saturday will be $15, and there will be free admission for youth 16 and under. Tickets for Sunday Market and Family Day will be $10 and free admission for youth 16 and under.

Gomez said although this event is in Santa Fe, it's an event Texans, including San Angeloans, won't want to miss.
