ASHLAND, VA — A raccoon was discovered passed out in the bathroom of an Ashland ABC Store after breaking in and drinking multiple types of alcohol, according to Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter.
Officials said Officer Martin responded Saturday morning to reports of a break-in and found shelves ransacked and bottles broken throughout the store. The “suspect,” later identified as a very intoxicated raccoon, was found collapsed on the restroom floor.
The raccoon was secured and taken to the shelter to sober up.
"After a few hours of sleep and zero signs of injury (other than maybe a hangover and poor life choices), he was safely released back to the wild, hopefully having learned that breaking and entering is not the answer," information from the shelter stated.
According to the shelter, the raccoon had likely consumed several different alcoholic beverages before passing out.
