WASHINGTON — More than 100,000 users reported trouble accessing Facebook on Friday morning as outages hit the social media platform’s website and mobile app.
Reports began spiking around 8:30 a.m. on the outage-tracking website DownDetector. Users said the site and app were timing out and displaying a message that the company was working on the problem.
The issues appeared to be site-wide and affected both desktop and mobile versions of Facebook.
Meta, which owns Facebook, acknowledged the disruptions. Spokesperson Andy Stone posted on X that the company was aware of the trouble.“People are currently having trouble accessing our services. We’re working on it,” Stone wrote.
Instagram, also owned by Meta, appeared to be working on mobile devices but not on desktop.
As of 9:15 a.m., Meta’s status page listed “High disruptions” for Facebook Ads Manager. The page said the company was aware that some advertisers were having trouble creating or editing ads and that engineering teams were working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
It was not immediately known when the problems would be fixed. This is a developing story.
