SAN ANGELO, TX – The Winter Storm Watch issued for the Concho Valley has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning from midnight Saturday night to 6 p.m. Sunday.
A strong upper level storm system has intensified and will move across the area dumping heavy rain beginning around midnight then changing over to heavy snow by sunrise Sunday.
National Weather Service meteorologists are now expecting three to five inches of snow Sunday with higher amounts of five to seven inches in places in the Concho Valley and the Heartland.
Roadways will become icy and dangerous throughout the day Sunday and with temperatures dipping into the mid 20s Sunday night, expect widespread icy and snow packed roads for the Monday morning commute.
There is an 80 percent chance of precipitation Saturday night increasing to a 90 percent chance of snow on Sunday with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark. Sunday night will be extremely cold with temperatures dropping to around 22 degrees by Monday morning.
This is a dangerous weather situation. Continue to monitor the NWS and local media for updates on changing conditions.
Motorists are urged to stay home if possible Sunday through Monday morning.
