Wildfire & High Wind Warnings Issued for the Concho Valley Friday

SAN ANGELO – High winds and low humidities will combine Friday to create dangerous wildfire conditions across the Concho Valley.

According to meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph will gust to 40 mph at times prompting the weather service to issue a Red Flag Warning for Friday.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions will occur.  A combination of high winds, low humidities and dry fuel will contribute to extreme wildfire behavior.

In addition, meteorologists have issued a Wind Advisory for the Concho Valley until 6 p.m. Friday.  A Wind Advisory means that winds of 30 to 39 mph with higher gusts will occur.  Winds this strong can knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Winds will subside Friday evening and cooler weather will filter across the region with temperatures dropping into the low 40s overnight with highs Saturday in the upper 50s.

No rain is expected in the Concho Valley for the next week.
