Sources: Black Ice Causes Multiple Crashes Around the Concho Valley

SAN ANGELO – Highways in the Concho Valley are iced over and treacherous Thursday morning as first responders report multiple crashes and urge drives to stay off roadways.

There was a crash involving an 18-wheeler carrying pipe between Wall and Eden on US 87 early Thursday morning.  The crash left pipe in the roadway and first responders worked to clear the roadway.

There have been reports of crashes blamed on icy roads on US 87 north, US 87 south, US 67 south toward Mertzon and on Houston-Harte/Loop 306 in San Angelo.

City streets in San Angelo seem to be passable but there are many areas of black ice on streets.

Temperatures will remain in the 20s across the Concho Valley until around noon when the temperature is forecast to climb above freezing.

The Concho Valley remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until noon Thursday.

Residents are urged not to drive unless it is absolutely necessary.  If you must drive, slow down, leave plenty of room between your vehicle and all other vehicles on the road, and driver carefully.

This is a developing story.
