SAN ANGELO – Excessive Heat Warnings and Red Flag Warnings for Wildfire Danger continue through the weekend in the Concho Valley but won't be necessary by Tuesday as afternoon high temperatures will only reach 100 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, an Excessive Heat Warning and a Red Flag Warning are in effect Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with afternoon temperatures reaching 107 degrees. Monday's high will be around 103, so the warning could be downgraded to an advisory or not be issued at all if temps, wind and humidity stay below advisory criteria.
Heat Warnings and Red Flag Warnings will likely return by midweek.
An Excessive Heat Warning means that extreme heat and humidity significantly increase the potential for heat related illness. A Red Flag Warning means high temperatures, high winds and dry fuels combine to increase the threat of wildfires spreading out of control.
Take the proper precautions for venturing out in the heat. Wear clothing to protect you from the sun and the heat. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of non-alcoholic fluids, take breaks in the shade and watch for the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Never, ever leave a child or a pet in a hot car. Make sure all outdoor pets have plenty of fresh water, shade, and access to food. That applies to outdoor children as well.
There is no rain in the forecast.
