Wildfire Danger is Greater Than Threat of Thunderstorms Today

 

SAN ANGELO, Texas – A Rangeland Fire Danger Statement has been issued for the Northern Edwards Plateau and the southwest Concho Valley due to heightened fire weather conditions anticipated this afternoon. Strong winds are forecasted with speeds ranging from 20 to 25 mph, accompanied by gusts up to 40 mph. In addition, scattered thunderstorms are expected this morning in the Big Country and northern Heartland regions, posing a risk of dangerous lightning.

Looking ahead, thunderstorms remain a possibility next Monday into Tuesday.

Today's Forecast: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected before 7 a.m., with the potential for severe storms. The day will start mostly cloudy, gradually transitioning to sunny skies with a high near 69. Winds are anticipated to be windy, coming from the northwest at 15 to 20 mph, increasing to 20 to 25 mph in the afternoon, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Tonight: Clear skies are forecasted, with temperatures dropping to around 46 degrees. The evening will be breezy, with a north wind initially at 15 to 20 mph, shifting to northwest at 5 to 10 mph later in the night. Gusts could reach up to 30 mph.

Thursday: Expect sunny conditions, with a high near 78. Winds will be light, starting from the northwest at 5 to 10 mph and gradually shifting to east-northeast in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear skies with a low around 52. Winds will be calm, coming from the east at around 5 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny skies with a high near 84. Breezy conditions are expected, with a south wind blowing at 10 to 20 mph, and gusts as high as 30 mph.
