Scattered Thunderstorms Expected in West Central Texas


SAN ANGELO, TX — According to information from the National Weather Service, scattered to widespread thunderstorms are anticipated throughout the day and night today. 

The affected areas include Fisher, Nolan, Sterling, Coke, Runnels, Irion, Tom Green, Concho, Crockett, Schleicher, Sutton, Haskell, Throckmorton, Jones, Shackelford, Taylor, Callahan, Coleman, Brown, McCulloch, San Saba, Menard, Kimble, and Mason counties.


Severe storms may develop this afternoon and evening, particularly south of a line extending from San Angelo to Brownwood. 

The primary threats include large hail, damaging winds, and dangerous lightning. Additionally, heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding.

2 p.m. Radar Update: Most of the stronger storms have shifted into the Hill Country around Mason and Junction. Some small hail, gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall are likely with these storms.

Elsewhere, expect "hit-and-miss" showers and storms to develop across the Big Country and Concho through the afternoon. 

Detailed Forecast:

Today: There is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. The weather will be mostly sunny, with a high near 91 degrees. Winds will shift from the south at around 5 mph to the northeast in the afternoon. Rainfall amounts could vary from a tenth to a quarter of an inch, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected before 10 p.m. The sky will be partly cloudy, with a low of around 68 degrees. East winds will blow at 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: The day will start mostly cloudy, gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 92 degrees. Winds will be from the east at about 5 mph.

Wednesday Night: The night will be mostly clear, with a low of around 71 degrees. East winds at 5 to 10 mph will shift to the south-southeast after midnight.

Thursday: The weather will be sunny, with a high near 97 degrees. Winds from the south will blow at around 5 mph.

Thursday Night: The sky will be clear, with a low of around 72 degrees. East-southeast winds will be 5 to 10 mph.

Friday: The day will be sunny and hot, with a high near 98 degrees. South winds will be at 5 to 10 mph.

Friday Night: The night will be mostly clear, with a low of around 72 degrees. Southeast winds will be 10 to 15 mph.
