San Angelo to See Hot Weekend, Small Chance of Storms Southeast

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – Temperatures in San Angelo are forecast to reach 96 degrees Saturday, with heat indices making it feel as hot as 102 to 104 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

A 20 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms is possible this afternoon and evening, mainly in areas southeast of San Angelo near Junction, Mason and San Saba. Winds will be from the south to southeast at 5 to 15 mph.

Overnight lows in San Angelo are expected to remain in the lower to mid-70s. The heat is forecast to continue through the upcoming week, with highs near or above 100 degrees starting Wednesday.

Rainfall in San Angelo has been well above normal so far this year, according to the National Weather Service. From Jan. 1 to July 26, the city has received 18.63 inches of precipitation, about 7.35 inches above the normal 11.28 inches. Average temperatures in San Angelo have been slightly below normal, with a year-to-date average of 66.4 degrees compared to the normal 65.9 degrees. The weather service attributed the rainfall surplus to heavy storms and flooding around July 4 and other episodes earlier this month.

The National Weather Service said San Angelo has not reached 100 degrees so far in June or July, with the last triple-digit temperature recorded on May 24, when the airport hit 101 degrees. The last time San Angelo went through July without hitting 100 degrees was in 2007, which was also the last year the city did not reach 100 degrees at all. Several years in the 1980s also saw no 100-degree days in July. Forecasters noted there was a chance of hitting 100 degrees Friday, with a forecast high of 99.
