Strong Winds to Heighten Fire Danger Across West Central Texas

SAN ANGELO, TX — Gusty south winds up to 30 mph are expected across West Central Texas on Sunday, increasing the risk of wildfires through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in San Angelo.

Forecasters said winds will strengthen Sunday morning and peak in the early afternoon, combining with low humidity and warm temperatures to create elevated fire weather conditions. Areas north of San Angelo, including Abilene, Sweetwater, and Brownwood, remain under an elevated fire weather outlook for both Saturday and Sunday.

Residents are urged to take safety precautions such as avoiding outdoor burning, ensuring vehicle chains are not dragging, and staying off dry grass.

Temperatures will stay above normal through next week, with highs near 90 degrees and little to no rain expected, keeping conditions favorable for fire spread.
