SAN ANGELO, TX— Near-record high temperatures and gusty winds are expected across San Angelo and the Concho Valley on Monday, creating elevated fire weather conditions, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters say afternoon highs will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s, roughly 20 degrees above normal for early January. West winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph, are expected to combine with warm, dry air to increase fire danger across the region.
The National Weather Service notes that warm, dry and windy conditions will lead to elevated fire weather conditions Monday afternoon across the Concho Valley and the Big Country.
Above-normal temperatures are expected to continue through the middle of the workweek, with San Angelo forecast to reach around 80 degrees again Tuesday and Wednesday. Cooler temperatures are expected to return by the end of the week, with highs dropping into the upper 50s to lower 60s by Friday and Saturday.
Rain chances are expected to return Wednesday night into Thursday. Forecast precipitation probabilities for San Angelo range from about 30% Wednesday to 35% Thursday, though forecasters say rainfall amounts are expected to remain light.
Mostly sunny skies are expected to continue through midweek as the region remains warm and dry ahead of the next weather system.
