SAN ANGELO, TX — Dry, breezy conditions will create elevated fire weather risks across West Central Texas on Friday, the National Weather Service in San Angelo warned.
Afternoon highs will reach the upper 60s to lower 70s — 10 to 15 degrees above normal — with west winds of 15 to 20 mph and higher gusts. The combination of low humidity, warm temperatures, and wind will produce elevated fire danger through the afternoon and early evening.
A strong cold front arriving this weekend will bring sharply cooler air to the region. In San Angelo, Saturday’s high is forecast at 54 degrees with a morning low of 34. Sunday will see a high near 59 and a low of 27, followed by a Monday high of 62 and a low of 29.
Similar cooling is expected across the area, with morning lows dropping into the 20s and low 30s Sunday and Monday in cities including Abilene, Brownwood, and Junction.
Milder, dry weather returns next week. San Angelo highs are expected to climb back into the mid-60s Tuesday through Thursday, with lows in the 30s and 40s. No precipitation is forecast through Jan. 15.
The National Weather Service asked residents to avoid outdoor burning and to exercise caution with any activities that could spark fires on Friday.
