Pfluger Pushes Back on President Biden's Anti-Energy Executive Orders

WASHINGTON, DC — Thursday, Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) supported two bills to prevent President Biden from rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement. Following the introduction of the legislation, Congressman Pfluger issued a statement:

“The Paris Climate Agreement does nothing to save or clean up the planet. With no mechanism to hold China and India—the two largest global polluters—accountable, this agreement merely shackles the United States with job-killing regulations that cost trillions of dollars and imperil our national security.

“Thanks to fracking and natural gas, the United States is already outperforming other major nations in reducing carbon emissions. President Trump made the right decision to withdraw our country from the ruinous Paris Climate Agreement in 2017, and since that point, America has reached energy independence for the first time in decades while simultaneously bringing CO2 emissions to an all-time low. We must let innovation and common-sense lead, not wrongheaded ideologies.

“Energy security is national security, and affordable, reliable energy is paramount to rebuilding a strong and vibrant American economy. I vehemently oppose President Biden’s plans for unconstitutional entry back into the Paris Climate Agreement.”

Legislation to block funding for implementation of the Biden executive order to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord was introduced along with Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21). Text of the bill is here.

The Paris Agreement Constitutional Treaty Act blocks funding for and executive actions to carry out the Paris Agreement Act until it is passed as a treaty in the U.S. Senate. This legislation was introduced with Rep. Lauren Boebert (CO-O3). Text of the bill is here.

This week, the Biden Administration also issued a 60-day moratorium on issuing new oil and gas leases on federal lands and waters. Pfluger denounced the action that will diminish prospects for jobs inside Pfluger's congressional district. There are 4.5 million acres in Texas and New Mexico that are currently leased for oil and gas exploration, according to the Bureau of Land Management's fiscal year 2019 report.

“President Biden is wasting no time pandering to his illogical base and devastating American energy dominance and oil and gas jobs in the process. Shutting down over 10 percent of our nation's energy production with the stroke of a pen is gross executive overreach and demonstrates that the Biden administration is more committed to radical Green New Deal policies than national security.

“Preventing this bad policy is exactly why I introduced the Saving America’s Energy Future Act. Our nation is struggling. We need energy and jobs, not pandering and politics. President Biden must immediately halt this unscientific and illogical assault on American energy.”

Why not work with the president to move our energy sources to cleaner alternatives? Gas and oil are here to stay. Why does the oil and gas industry need welfare?
