WATCH: Congressman Pfluger for the Historic Win!

WASHINGTON D.C. – Congressman August Pfluger of San Angelo helped lead the House Republican baseball team to its first win since 2016 during the annual Congressional Baseball Game for Charity in Washington, D.C. Wednesday night.

The Congressional Republican baseball team beat the Democratic baseball team on Wednesday night for the first time since 2016.

Rep. Greg Stuebe started the game on the mound for the right. He was able to pitch 120 pitches and kept the Republicans within reach of the left. He was also responsible for the first out-of-the-park home run in over 40 years.

Pfluger pitched the final out.  Watch the video below:

Here are more sights and sounds from last night's game:

Stuebe was not the only Republican to stand out. San Angelo's own August Pfluger made a number of plays including a two run single to take the lead in the sixth inning.

Pfluger also closed the game pitching on the mound and was able to get a number of strikeouts. Announcers for the game continued to say that Pfluger, a former baseball player at the Air Force Academy, was one of the most enthusiastic players on the field.

The game was filled with fun and excitement for both sides but the Republicans were able to pull out the victory 13 to 12. This was the first win for the republicans since 2016.

The real winner of the night was the charities for which the teams played for. Charities such as the Washington Literacy Center, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, Washington Nationals Philanthropies, and the United States Capitol Police Memorial Fund.
