Paxton Accuses Talarico of Flip-Flopping on Gender-Transition Procedures for Minors

AUSTIN, TX — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton accused Democratic candidate James Talarico of flip-flopping on his positions regarding gender-transition procedures for minors, citing a recent podcast interview and Talarico’s past statements and votes.

In a press release issued under his U.S. Senate campaign and dated June 8, Paxton pointed to Talarico’s appearance on the Cogdell Law Uncensored Podcast. Paxton said Talarico now claims he opposes gender-reassignment surgery for minors, but previously expressed support for transgender youth.

Paxton noted that in a 2023 interview, Talarico said that next to friends and family he “loves trans children” the most. The release also said Talarico belongs to the LGBTQ Caucus, which has backed puberty blockers, hormone treatments for children and drag shows for children. While serving in the Texas Legislature, Talarico voted to allow biological males to participate in girls’ sports, according to the release.

“This is just the latest example of Talarico masquerading as a moderate when the truth is he’s the most radical Democrat to ever run statewide in Texas history,” Paxton said in the release. “James Talafreako has proven he will lie time and time again because he knows his radical policies are extreme and completely out-of-touch with the people of Texas.”

The release, headlined “TalaCreepo Flip-Flops on Pushing Extremely Harmful, Life-Altering Gender ‘Transition’ Procedures on Kids,” was distributed Monday via Paxton’s campaign account on X.
