Shenanigans Crowd Celebrates Victorious Comeback for UFC Favorite Anderson Silva

Excitement filled the air Saturday night at Shenanigans in anticipation for Anderson Silva’s UFC comeback fight against Nick Diaz. No one will forget the gruesome leg injury that made Silva’s leg look like a rubber prop in a horror movie last year in a rematch fight against Chris Weidman.

“When I saw that my leg was broken, I was terrified. I couldn’t tell if the fracture was exposed or not. Then, I spoke with the judge who was there with me so they could put my leg in place as quickly as possible, and the pain was absurd,“ Anderson “The Spider ” Silva  promised in an interview with SherDog last January.  “I only thought one thing: Is it over? Will I ever walk again? Am I alright? But, I am confident that I will succeed. I will return.”

Thirteen months later, Silva returns with determination to prove his injury will not hinder him in competing with the best of them. Nick Diaz came out of a two year semi –retirement to welcome Silva back.  Diaz kept his usual trash talk before the fight to himself,(very unusual to his character) saving it all for the octagon.

“I said, ‘let’s go’. I said, ‘come get you some.’ I was like, ‘throw it,'" boasted Diaz afterwards.

In the end, trash talk is all Diaz had to brag about after a harrying five-round bout against Silva. The judge’s scored in Silva’s favor in a unanimous decision, pulling away the win with superior speed and accurate combinations.

Anderson Silva collapsed to the canvas during an emotional victory that was the result of the culmination of hard work, pain, and rehabilitation over the past year.

“I wasn’t playing at any moment. I was serious and that’s what you saw”, Silva said. “Throughout the years all you see is the truth. Tonight was the truth, and I did exactly what I trained to do.”

When asked if Silva’s intention is to make a permanent return to the UFC , Silva had this to say, “ I need to talk to my family. I love my job; this is me. I love to fight, but I need to talk to my family because this is the more important in my life right now. It’s a difficult decision, very difficult.”

This marks Nick Diaz’s third loss in a row, in fact he hasn’t won a fight since roughing up B.J. Penn in October of 2011.

“I feel like I won that fight. I’m not sure what the judges were thinking, or how they are scoring things nowadays.” Diaz said in a post-fight conference Saturday night. “It doesn’t feel good to have to argue with someone [about the outcome] when they have their opinion. I’m having to avoid too many arguments. I’ll tell you, I wish I would just fall off and people would just stop talking about me, but that’s not happening.”

Although Diaz’s tone sounds as if he might throw in the towel, you never know what to expect from this seasoned man-to-man , in your face rattlesnake of a striker.
