Play It Again at SAMFA

 

The West Texas Jazz Orchestra (WTJO) and The San Angelo Jazz Project (SAJP) will perform at the fourth annual Play It Again concert held at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, on Sunday, May 3 at 2p.m.  The concert will wrap up SAMFA’s 2014-2015 concert season.

The WTJO is made up of area high school and junior high band directors, ASU music professors and other area musicians.  The SAJP consists of sixteen high school and college musicians. Both bands are under the direction of James Bode, who is also the founder of the WTJO.

Bode earned his Bachelor of Music Education from the University of North Texas in 1976, and a Master of Music Performance  from UT in Austin in 1990. In years past he has been a band director for Central High School, Lincoln Junior High, Irion County and Fredericksburg. He was also a percussion instructor at ASU from 1985-1988.

Bode has a list of accomplishments to his credit, every high school he has worked with received a plethora of trophies or recognitions at area festivals or state UIL competitions under his direction in one form or another.  He retired from public school teaching in May of 2010, and at the present time is also a drummer for Jazz Concho and the principal percussionist with the San Angelo Symphony.

Tickets prices are as follows: $10 for the general public, $8 for art museum members, $5 for students elementary to college age and $5 for senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling SAMFA at (325)653-3333. For more information visit: www.samfa.org
