Fun Run and Walk to Benefit Local Non-profit Organization

Terry Shaner, of Galilee Community Development, in San Angelo, has been preparing for their agencies sponsored "5th Annual Lone Wolf 5 Mile Run and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk" for several months. The event will take place on Saturday, April 9th.  

"The start and finish line will be on the River Trail, off Rio Concho Drive (behind Cross Fit), following the trail to 14th Street and then return," said Shaner. 

Although online pre-registration ended April 2nd, interested parties can still download the entry form and drop it off at Galilee CDC at 1404 South Oakes. Shaner said, regarding entry fees, "The pre-race price is 1 Mile for $4, 5 Mile-Youth $10 and 5 Mile Adult-$15; and, on race morning, the price is 1 Mile-$6, 5 Mile-Youth $12 and 5 Mile-Adult $17. Race day registration begins at 7 a.m."

The proceeds of the event will go to benefit "Galilee Community Development Corporation," a local non-profit organization.

Shaner added, "Mostly, we build new affordable homes for low and moderate income households, some home repair for senior citizens (like the Christmas in April model), and home modifications for the disabled. We have built 31 new homes since 2007, and also have three under construction. We also own the North Angelo Housing Estates (NoAH Estates), which is single-family rentals."

Shaner added, "We had our April blitz last weekend and volunteer teams worked on 33 low-income elderly homes. Anyone can donate at anytime, and GCD is a part of San Angelo Gives."

GCD is also a 501c3 certified agency, so donations are tax deductible. There will also be an online donation drive that the San Angelo Area Foundation runs, and that part will take place May 3rd.
