Two More San Angeloans Announce Candidacy in May 6 Election

SAN ANGELO, TX- Today, two more people announced they have filed their candidacies in the May 6 election for the San Angelo City Council.

This afternoon, Charlotte Farmer filed her candidacy for mayor and Tom Thompson filed his candidacy for City Council’s District 2 seat.

Farmer explained that she loves san Angelo and wants to do the right thing in the best interest of the majority. She added, "After 12 years on the Council, and six years on Civic Events, it was time to give up my seat on the Council."

Farmer was formally the Council member for District 6. She said, "The main consideration for running for the mayor seat was institutional knowledge and continue of service plans to pay the debt of long-term water for the citizens of San Angelo. New blood and ideas are good, but we need to hold steady the paths that have paved our way."

District 4 and 6 seats are also on the ballot. Winners of this election will serve four-year terms.

Candidates who have filed to run include:

  • Mayor: Tony Villarreal and Brenda Gunter
  • District 4: Lucy Gonzales
  • District 6: Steve Hampton

Possible candidates are able to file until Feb. 17. Brian Groves, Public Information Officer for the city of San Angelo stated, “Candidates file the necessary paperwork in the City Clerk’s office in Room 210 on the second floor of City Hall, 72 W. College Ave. The office is open from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.”

Candidate packets containing an application, information and forms about the process for those considering running for City Council will be available in the City Clerk’s office or at cosatx.us/May2017. Questions about the form and application can be addressed by City Clerk Bryan Kendrick at 325-657-4405 or at [email protected].

Groves said, “Voters and potential candidates can access a map of the City Council districts at cosatx.us/council. Determining which district one lives in can be determined by clicking the GIS map viewer on the same page.”

To be able to vote in the May 6 election, voters must be registered by April 7.

This is fantastic news that Farmer is giving up her council seat to run for mayor, this is an excellent way of flushing her out of city government. She won't stand a farts chance in a whirlwind of winning the mayors seat and so FINALLY...... after all these years of her incompetence on the council, we are guaranteed to finally be rid of her.......
