Much Loved Retired Police Officer Loses Home to Fire During Winter Storm

SAN ANGELO, TX — She retired in June 2019 from the San Angelo Police Department. A quick search of the San Angelo LIVE! archives will find many mentions of Officer Cathy Delaughter. She was likely the first person to greet you at the police station if you went there on business.

After retirement, Delaughter moved to a small home near Metzon, in Sherwood. When the winter weather storm arrived Sunday night, Delaughter and her son and grandson left home to stay in San Angelo. It was warmer and safer to weather the storm in the city.

Tragically, while in San Angelo, her home caught on fire. The entire residence burned to the ground.

Her sister is sponsoring a fundraiser for the retired police officer on GoFundMe.

“She is an extremely sentimental and family oriented person. We know most of their things are not replaceable, but we are asking for your help so she can begin the process of rebuilding! Anything helps!” wrote Lizette Mase.

As of publication time and date of this article, $8,000 of a $20,000 goal has been raised. We verified this fundraiser and understand that a member of the family operates the fundraiser and of the money raised will go to the Delaughter family. Usually we don't publish GoFundMe links because it is difficult to verify the authenticity. This one is good to go.

Here is the GoFundMe page for Cathy Delaughter’s home.
