San Angelo City Council to Consult with Attorney Over Sanctuary City for the Unborn

SAN ANGELO, TX –– On Saturday morning, San Angeloans will gather in front of the San Angelo City Hall to protest the movement aiming to make San Angelo a Sanctuary City for the Unborn.

Several weeks ago, Mayor Brenda Gunter announced the city would seek to follow Lubbock's example and put the issue on the ballot –– a move pro-life advocates strongly oppose. They argue the city council should approve an ordinance without waiting for a vote from the public.

During next Tuesday's meeting, the council will meet with attorneys to discuss the issue during a closed session.

The possibility of designating San Angelo as a sanctuary city has become a contentious issue –– especially during the last city council meeting. Both advocates and critics spoke up during the public comment section as both sides fiercely advocated their positions.

The march will begin at City Hall at 9:00 a.m. and make its way to the courthouse and back again. The event, which is being organized by the Women’s March San Angelo group, will advocate for the right to bodily autonomy and accessible options.  The march is being held in observation of the national Women's March.

According to those who support abortion on demand, “bodily autonomy” only applies to the woman. In realty there’s another human life involved separate and unique ;)

Looks like some people still believe in democracy. While republicans will do anything they can to subvert it because they know they will lose if they don't.

Just admit it abortion is the taking of a human life you can’t do it can you?

ME Someone, Fri, 10/01/2021 - 12:27

Just admit republicans don't believe in democracy, you can't do it can you?

Actually we’re a Democratic Republic based on individual rights…our first and foremost right being the right to life ;)

If the baby isn’t a life, then why are people that kill pregnant women charged with double homicide? The law covers the whole pregnancy with the term “in utero.”

Public Law 108-212

‘‘1841. Protection of unborn children.
‘‘§ 1841. Protection of unborn children
‘‘(a)(1) Whoever engages in conduct that violates any of the provisions of law listed in subsection (b) and thereby causes the death of, or bodily injury (as defined in section 1365) to, a child, who is in utero at the time the conduct takes place, is guilty of a separate offense under this section.

Lots of “accessible options” available btw. The best time to consider those would be BEFORE choosing to end the life of your child ;)

I’m not naive enough to think that abortion is going to magically go away, but IMO the more limits that are put on it the better ;)

Seeing as how the state of Texas is currently a sanctuary for the unborn, declaring the city as one seems redundant. Just one group imposing their morality on the others.

It's just another way our idiot mayor and city council can find ways to waste taxpayer dollars. They could instead use that money to recondition the streets in San Angelo. They're currently in worse shape than they've ever been.

“Law and morality are two normative systems that control and regulate behaviors in a human community so as to allow harmonious and effective intersubjectivity between individuals who recognize one another as bearers of rights.”

The right to life, according to the Constitution, is a God given right. So if it applies to one it applies to all..,including the unborn.

ME Someone, Fri, 10/01/2021 - 22:57

Flat out lie. The constitution does not have the word "god" in it. It specifically states that government should be kept separate from cults.

ME Someone, Sat, 10/02/2021 - 16:25

At least you admitted when you are proven wrong this time. One for this month.

To me it doesn’t really matter from where you believe our rights are derived. Obviously you godless liberals think they come from government since you don’t believe God exists. My point, which you didn’t address btw, is that they’re individual rights…so if they belong to one they belong to all including the unborn ;)

ME Someone, Sun, 10/03/2021 - 15:19

Your rights come from law. Law says you can't have a birth certificate and not a person until after birth.

Should women have had the right to vote prior to 1920? If not, why? If so, then you’ve contradicted yourself because the right came before the law.

How convenient not even considered a human being! Of course, according to SCIENCE, it’s a lie and everyone knows it!

if not a human being then what is it? The elephant in the womb maybe lol.

ME Someone, Mon, 10/04/2021 - 17:31

" Of course, according to SCIENCE, it’s a lie and everyone knows it!"

Post it then, so I can take a look. If "everyone" knows it, then it should be easy for you to prove, unless you are lying of course.

ME Someone, Mon, 10/04/2021 - 17:33

Elephants are protected in America? Those wild elephants you see in the US everywhere are US government protected?

ME Someone, Mon, 10/04/2021 - 20:53

For the second time this month you are not making any sense.

You claimed that you lived in another state. If that’s true, then what were you doing at a local demonstration?

Or were you just lying as usual?

ME Someone, Mon, 10/04/2021 - 23:22

What I most likely said is "you assume I live in this state", I may also have more than one residence in multiple states, you don't know, just like you assume that I am a woman, which I may or may not be. You have no clue what you are talking about, so don't even try.

ME Someone, Mon, 10/04/2021 - 23:27

Also, if this is about life, and banning abortions will save "lives", why are you people against banning guns? Works the same way doesn't it? Or are you just being hypocrites again? And don't give me the "rights" talk, BOTH are constitutionally protected rights.

On a side note I am for guns (although I think being licensed and trained is a good idea, you want voter ID but no ID to posses a gun, interesting huh), I just want to call you people out on your stance and hypocrisy.

A better question would be, why is it the fault of the unborn child for the irresponsible actions of the ones involved in the “creation” of that child?

The answer is it’s not…but regardless they’re the ones who end up paying the “ultimate price”.

ME Someone, Tue, 10/05/2021 - 14:17

A better question would be, why is it the fault of the shooting victim for the irresponsible actions of the shooter involved in the shooting of that victim?

The answer is it’s not…but regardless they’re the ones who end up paying the “ultimate price”.

See, it works the same way, so why are you against banning guns if it will save lives like you claim is the reason you want to ban other constitutionally protected rights?

Sounds like me someone got caught in a huge lie. LOL now you're just a YUGE liar like your liar in chief Joe Biden. He got busted admitting he got arrested trying to visit Mandela in prison lmao!!

Btw in Texas you must have a valid Texas ID to purchase a firearm, and be able to pass a federal background check and until September 1 of this year had to have another separate license to carry it in public. You've now lost all credibility here since you just let hot air pass through your lips with every post.

ME Someone, Tue, 10/05/2021 - 14:14

So like you admit, you don't have to have a license to carry, like I said, thank you for agreeing with me.
