Adult and Kids Leagues:

Kentner spoke about some of the adult league intermural sports offered by the San Angelo recreation department including slow-pitch softball, volleyball, flag football, and basketball. He also reminded the audience that the various kid league activities are available throughout the entire year.

Senior Services:

Kentner said The Recreation Department has two senior centers that are devoted to providing adults ages 55 and older in the community who are looking for a place to socialize and stay active. The senior centers offer various amenities, services, and programs for seniors to choose from. Kentner explained that many people in town are unaware of these services and explained that "The senior services are designed to assist them both physically and mentally and aim to improve overall cognitive function, motor control skills, functional mobility, creativity, and social engagement."

Senior Center amenities include a swimming pool and fitness center and a variety of programs and activities to choose from such as card games, board games, bingo, sewing, arts and crafts, and more. They also provide meals for the elderly Monday through Friday from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the senior center.

Kentner emphasized the importance of these services for seniors, "As we get older our parents start to get quite a bit older themselves. My dad is actually quite a bit older and just being around him, you just realize that you want them to be around as long as possible and capable of doing everyday activities as long as possible. You realize that socializing, getting out of the house, and remaining active is essential to keep going strong for years to come. "
