SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo City Council officially canvassed the results of the May 3 election and scheduled a runoff for the District 2 city council seat during a special meeting Wednesday morning.
According to the information provided at the meeting, Proposition A—the bond measure related to coliseum renovations—passed with 5,435 votes in favor and 4,813 against. The ordinance canvassing those results passed unanimously.
In the mayoral race, Thomas “Tom” Thompson won with 5,095 votes, or 51.45% of the total. Other candidates included Trinidad Aguirre Jr. (2,407), Gary Jenkins (1,704), Juan Acevedo (403), and Joshua Burleson (293). Council formally declared Thompson elected to a four-year term.
In the District 4 race, Patrick Keely was declared the winner with 507 votes over Jamal Schumpert, who received 246.
District 2 saw no candidate reach a majority. Joe Self Jr. received 485 votes, followed by Dudra Butler with 432 and John Bariou with 365. The council ordered a runoff between Self and Butler to be held Saturday, June 7, 2025.
All motions passed on a 5-0 vote. The meeting adjourned with no additional items discussed.
