AUSTIN, TX — State Rep. Drew Darby of San Angelo has been appointed to the newly created House Select Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding, tasked with reviewing state policies on disaster response and recovery, Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows announced Tuesday.

The committee’s scope includes considering local matching funds for jurisdictions eligible for FEMA public assistance.
The committee will submit reports as an interim study committee and may meet jointly with the Senate Select Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding to conduct informational meetings. It will dissolve when the 90th Legislature convenes.
Other appointees include Ken King, chair; Armando Martinez, vice chair; Greg Bonnen; Ann Johnson; AJ Louderback; Joe Moody; Wes Virdell; and Terry Wilson.
Burrows approved the committee’s formation on July 15, 2025.
