SAN ANGELO, TX - Angelo State University's Dr. Arnoldo De Leon Department of History will host two public lectures in October to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II as part of a month-long program titled "Aftermaths: Navigating War and Peace in 1945."
The lectures commemorate both the impact and the legacy of World War II, and they are free and open to the public.
Tuesday, Oct. 14, 5-7:30 p.m. - Aftermaths Keynote Lecture and Student Art Exhibit
Dr. Adam Seipp, a professor of history at Texas A&M University, will deliver the keynote lecture titled "The Ends of War: Americans and Germans, 1945-1946" in ASU's Elta Joyce Murphey Auditorium inside the Mayer Administration Building.
The evening will begin with a social hour featuring a virtual exhibit of artworks entered by ASU students in the Aftermaths Student Art Contest. The contest winners will be announced, and light refreshments will be served. The keynote lecture will begin at 6 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 30, 3:30-5 p.m. - Aftermaths ASU Faculty Lecture
Dr. Rebekah McMillan of the ASU history faculty will present "The Holocaust," an insightful talk that explores one of the most tragic and important events of the 20th century. The lecture will take place in Room 203/204 of the Houston Harte University Center, and light refreshments will be served.
The Aftermaths program is being presented by the Dr. Arnoldo De Leon Department of History and its History Lecture Series and is made possible through the generosity of the Dorsey B. Hardeman Endowed Chair in History. More details are available at angelo.edu/aftermaths.
