SAN ANGELO, TX — The Concho Valley Republican Women hosted their 20th annual Back the Badge luncheon Monday at First Methodist Church in downtown San Angelo, honoring area first responders and remembering the late Steve Morris, who helped cook for the event in recent years.
The annual luncheon began in 2003 as a way to thank local law enforcement and emergency personnel. Since 2016, Morris and his friend Buzz Woitek had donated and cooked the meat for the event. Morris passed away in June, and this year’s luncheon was held in his memory.

Tom Green County Constable Mike Magee prepared the pulled pork this year to carry on the tradition. Donations from community members helped cover the cost of the meal, which included sandwiches, sides, and desserts. First responders were invited to dine in or take to-go plates.
This year’s Back the Badge recognized Gold-level donors State Rep. Drew Darby, U.S. Congressman August Pfluger, and Cheryl and Aubrey DeCordova; Silver-level donors Ellen Lasseter, Laura and Leland Lacy, and Michele and David DeRusso; and Bronze-level donors Lou Brown, Estelle Eckert, Linda Noelke, Debbie Choat, Ginger Moore, Jean Hoysa, Elaine Anne Srader, Tina Nolen, and Rita Pepi.
