SAN ANGELO, TX — Governor Greg Abbott appointed Dr. Mark Edwards to the Texas Medical Board District Three Review Committee, placing a Shannon Health physician in a key role overseeing professional standards for Texas doctors.
Edwards’ term runs through Jan. 15, 2028. He serves as medical director for Shannon Clinic Urgent Care Centers, which includes Shannon Urgent Care West in San Angelo. Abbott also appointed Sharon Carr of Canadian to the District Three panel for a term expiring Jan. 15, 2026, and Dr. David Lindzey of Spicewood to the District Four Review Committee through Jan. 15, 2030.
Edwards is board-certified in family medicine and urgent care medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine, a diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine and the Board of Certification in Urgent Care Medicine, and a member of the Southern Medical Association. He serves on the advisory board for the Health Environmental Learning Program and is president and trustee of Lighthouse Community Church of Sonora.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Texas A&M University and a medical degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine.
Carr previously served as director of the Hemphill County Juvenile Bootcamp and is vice president of the Hemphill County Hospital board. Lindzey is a physician with Ascension Physician Group and has served on boards for the Texas Hospital Association and Volunteer Hospitals of America.
