SAN ANGELO, TX - Angelo State University has again earned national recognition from several organizations, including a No. 2 national ranking from the Military Times, for excellence in education and related services that significantly contribute to the academic success of veteran and military students and their families.
For the 12th consecutive year, ASU has been named a national "Best for Vets College" by the Military Times. ASU also ranked No. 2 among the 355 U.S. colleges, universities and trade schools that made the 2025 rankings, is ranked No. 1 among U.S. four-year public universities, and is the highest ranked of the 13 Texas public institutions on the list.
The "Best for Vets Colleges" list of recognized schools will also be published in the November/December print issues of the Air Force Times, Army Times, Marine Corps Times and Navy Times.
"Angelo State University's recognition in the 'Best for Vets' survey is a testament to the power of teamwork," said Phillip Nichelson, director of affiliated military and veteran services. "It celebrates the dedication of our students, faculty, staff and administrators, who together showcase the spirit and success of this university. At the heart of this recognition are our military-affiliated students, whose accomplishments shine as some of the very best in the nation."
Additionally, for the fifth year in a row, ASU has been named one of the nation's "Top Veteran-Friendly Schools" by U.S. Veterans Magazine. ASU is one of only 10 Texas public universities among the 391 U.S. colleges, universities and trade schools that made the 2025 rankings list.
Earlier this year, ASU was named a national "Military Friendly School" by Victory Media/G.I. Jobs magazine for the 16th time - and also earned the "Military Support College of Distinction" designation from the Colleges of Distinction organization for the sixth straight year.
At the state level, ASU received a 2025 Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Award from the Texas Veterans Commission's Veterans Education Program, also earning the top-level Gold Award.
ASU's VETS Center provides enrollment and academic support for military and veteran students, as well as special programs, networking opportunities, social and study areas, and a dedicated computer lab. The Office of Affiliated Military and Veteran Services coordinates the efforts of the VETS Center and other faculty and staff who deal directly with ASU military and veteran students and their families.
