TPWD Announces Electrofishing Results From Lake Nasworthy

SAN ANGELO, TX — A fishing survey this week conducted by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department showed promising results at Lake Nasworthy.

Results were consistent with past surveys for prey species as most of the bluegill sampled were 3 to 5 inches in length, while gizzard shad ranged from 4 to 9 inches in length.

There were 106 largemouth bass sampled, with fish up to 22 inches observed. The heaviest fish weighed 8.8 pounds. Weights were average for smaller size classes and high for larger size classes.

There were 13 fish retained for age analysis. Fish are reaching the legal length of 14 inches at 3.8 years old, which was also consistent with previous Nasworthy surveys.

Big largemouth bass are present, TPWD stated, but they’re not typically seen in electrofishing surveys. However, several of them weighing more than 6 pounds were observed in a survey earlier this year.
