San Angelo Family Featured on ABC’s 'The Great Christmas Light Fight'

SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo family was featured on a recent episode of ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight,” showcasing a large, handmade holiday display built using materials from their farm and workshop.

The Irvin family of San Angelo appeared in the show’s second episode this season, titled “Santa’s Making His List,”competing against other Texas families for the $50,000 grand prize and the show’s “Light Fight” trophy.

During the episode, Sally and Kenny Irvin explained that their Christmas display is largely constructed by hand using materials from their small farm and workshop, including chicken wire, fencing material, and rebar.

“We have a small farm here, and anything we need new for the Christmas show, we can just go out back in the pasture or in the shop, and we can build anything we want,” Sally Irvin said.

They also described how specific decorations were made.

“The hanging balls are made out of the chicken wire. We have a homemade bow which is made out of just fencing material. The homemade stars on top of the roof are made out of rebar,” she said.

The couple described their display as a “country Christmas” filled with illuminated trees, a fully lit home, wreath decorations, and a walk-through snowman arch stretching nearly 100 feet.

Show judge Taniya Nayak toured the display and commented on the scale, layout, and presentation of the decorations, including the straight, light-lined pathway and full exterior lighting of the home.

Despite the extensive display and positive reactions during the visit, the Irvin family did not win their episode, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

“The Great Christmas Light Fight” is now in its 13th season, which premiered with a two-episode debut on Dec. 4. Additional double episodes are scheduled to air on Dec. 11 and Dec. 18.

Another Texas family, the Loder family of Plano, is scheduled to appear in the Dec. 18 episode.
