San Angelo Christian Academy Announces Scholarship in Honor of Fallen Officer

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo Christian Academy has announced a scholarship that will be awarded in honor of former Tom Green County Criminal Investigator Steven Carnes.

The longtime law enforcement officer in San Angelo suffered a fatal heart attack while attempting to arrest a suspect at a nightclub Nov. 13, 2022.

Carnes worked in law enforcement for nearly 30 years and was commissioned as a Criminal Investigator with the District Attorney’s Office at the time.

Carnes’ first post in law enforcement was with the Bastrop Police Department, where he wore badge No. 862.

San Angelo Christian Academy is partnering with the Carnes family to award $862 scholarships to any active-duty law enforcement family that enrolls their students at the school.

Carnes’ son, Bradley, was the valedictorian at the school in 2019 and has since decided to follow in his father’s footsteps by becoming a police officer. He is currently a cadet in the police academy for the San Angelo Police Department.

“Our goal is to help students and their families learn more about Christ while getting an excellent education, and to raise awareness of the importance of law enforcement in our communities,” San Angelo Christian Academy stated in a press release.
