SAN ANGELO, TX - Dr. Mark Covey of the Angelo State University music faculty will present his annual solo voice recital on Thursday, Feb. 5, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building at 2602 Dena Drive.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the EFA Building's Eldon Black Recital Hall and is free and open to the public.
A bass-baritone vocalist, Covey will be accompanied on piano by former ASU staff accompanist Hunter Mabery. The musical program will include songs from the Spanish Renaissance, as well as arias by various well-known European composers, including:
- George Frideric Handel
- Franz Schubert
- Gioachino Rossini
- Gerald Finzi
A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Covey joined the ASU music faculty in 2021. He has performed with the Opera Company of Middlebury in Vermont, Opera Las Vegas, Opera San Antonio and Texas Hill Country Opera, as well as throughout the U.S., Germany, France and Italy. He has been described as "a real virtuoso" by Opera Today. Also an accomplished classical guitarist, he released a solo album, "Glory of Guitar," in 2017.
