San Angelo, Once Again, Has The Highest Gas Prices in Texas

SAN ANGELO, TX - The statewide gas price average in Texas is $4.09 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is 24 cents more when compared to this day last week and is $1.32 more per gallon compared to this day last year.

Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in San Angelo are paying the most on average at $4.21 per gallon. Just a month ago, AAA Texas reported that San Angelo drivers were paying the most on average at $4.12.

Drivers in Lubbock are paying the least at $3.91 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.56, which is 26 cents more when compared to this day last week and $1.41 more when compared to this day last year.

For the first time since July 2022, the Texas statewide gas price average reached $4 per gallon this week and continues to climb. The statewide average is now 48% higher than it was on this day last year. The main factor behind the increase is elevated crude oil prices, driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions and uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, seasonal demand is also rising as warmer weather brings more people onto the roads and the busy Memorial Day travel weekend approaches.

“Elevated crude oil prices remain the main driver behind the higher prices Texas drivers are seeing at the pump,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “Ongoing geopolitical tensions and uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz continue to influence the global oil market. At the same time, warmer weather brings more people onto the roads, which typically increases fuel demand this time of year.”
