SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo worker fell more than two stories from a restaurant roof in 2017 after climbing a ladder to warn his crew of a cleaning equipment failure — with no radio to communicate and no warning about the roof’s unstable surface.
Sion Long filed suit Feb. 15, 2019, in Tom Green County’s 119th District Court against his former employer, Kenneth Webb, individually and doing business as West Texas Hoods, and the company itself. The petition alleges negligence in the Feb. 23, 2017, accident in Midland County that left Long with severe injuries.
Long was working as a helper/laborer, power washing a restaurant's grease hood and ventilation system from the roof. When the containment material failed, and cleaning liquids were sprayed into the kitchen, Long had no radio to alert the crew above. He climbed a ladder positioned by co-workers against a non-uniform, hollow section of the roof he had not been warned about, the lawsuit states. He then fell to the ground.
At the time, West Texas Hoods was not subscribed to a workers’ compensation policy that covered Long, according to the filing.
Long claims the fall caused severe personal injuries, including medical expenses, physical pain, mental anguish, disfigurement, impairment, and past and future loss of earnings. He is seeking damages greater than $200,000 but less than $1 million.
Defendants filed a general denial on March 13, 2019, and requested disclosure from Long, who demanded a jury trial.
The case has remained pending for more than seven years. On March 31, 2026, the 119th District Court issued a notice of intent to dismiss and set the matter for a dismissal docket hearing at 1 p.m. June 10, 2026, before Judge Gonzalo Rios.
