Gas Prices Drop 2nd Straight Week in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX - The statewide gas price average in Texas is now $3.72 for a gallon of regular unleaded, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

That price is 20 cents less than a week ago and 98 cents more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $4.05 per gallon, which is the only Texas metro average above $4 a gallon, while drivers in McAllen are paying the least at $3.44 per gallon.

In San Angelo, drivers are currently paying $3.65, which is a 28-cent drop from this time a week ago, but still 87 cents higher than this time last year.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.24, which is 18 cents less than this day last week and $1.10 more compared to this day last year.

This is the second week in a row that gas prices have dropped significantly locally and nationally, and Texas is now one of 17 states with statewide price averages below $4 a gallon. Oil prices continue to trade slightly below $100 a barrel, but gas prices are likely to remain volatile and well above last year’s levels as long as the Middle East conflict remains unresolved.

“With constantly fluctuating gas prices at the start of the summer road trip season, it’s hard for drivers to know the best prices for gasoline as they hit the road,” said AAA Texas Corporate Communications Manager Doug Shupe. “It’s a good idea to use an online tool such as the free AAA Mobile app to shop around virtually for the lowest gas price near you.”
