City Council Approves Funds to Repair Flood-Damaged Areas

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo City Council approved a nearly $1 million erosion and flood mitigation project this week, accepting more than $750,000 in federal funding to repair and reinforce damaged areas across the city.

According to a city report, several locations within San Angelo have experienced erosion and water damage, including North Jefferson Street, Beaty Road and the area beneath the 19th Street bridge.

The project was developed in response to flooding that occurred on July 4, 2025.

The funding includes more than $750,000 from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, with the city contributing about $230,000 in matching funds.

City Operations Director Patrick Frerich said the project will address eight sites across San Angelo.

“Basically what that’s going to do is it’s going to provide funding to help us both repair and substantiate eight different locations across town to protect against further erosion and damage,” Frerich said.

The next phase of the project will involve developing engineering plans, city officials said.

Officials are also awaiting a decision on a state grant application that would allow the city to purchase several properties affected by flooding.
